Psychnology
goes to Webbit: a brief report.
During the 5th and 7th of July the "Webb.it" has taken
place in Padova for the second year (http://www.webb.it), a large
meeting point for the Information Communication Technology community.
A rich set of events has been set up to attract the heterogeneous
needs and interests of professionals, young talents, users, industries
and communities in the field of Information and Communication
Technology (ICT). This year's edition has offered 381 workshops
on 6 thematic areas (Design and Graphics, New Media, Software
Development & Programming, Hardware/System Networking, Communication
Marketing, Business), an exhibition with 50.000 visitors and a
'campus' where young internauts endowed with their sleeping bags
have gathered to use a 1200 nodes and 156 Mb LAN and enjoy the
parties.
Psychnology has officially entered the public arena by taking
part to this event and presenting its experience in the human
aspects of new technologies. We organized three workshops ('Psychnology
The other side of technology', 'Social, cognitive and cultural
ergonomics', 'Current approaches to the design of new technologies')
attended by more than 200 participants and had our own stand at
the exhibition. The result was exciting, with dozens of new subscriptions
to our mailing list, important contacts with well-known Information
and Communication Technologies industries and wide recognition
of the value of our emphasis on the strong connection among psychology
and technology. Our approach has been said to address a usually
neglected yet visibly influent aspect of technologies and new
ideas for future initiatives have been fuelled.
